If you try to get to know Komitas, you try to get to know your own kind: Vardan Mkrtchyan on film “Alter Ego”

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 24, ARMENPRESS. If you try to get to know Komitas, first of all you try to get to know your own kind, and finally, yourself. Vardan Mkrtchyan, General Director of Hamazgayin (Pan-National) Theatre named after Sos Sargsyan who also stars in Vigen Chaldranyan’s new film about Komitas titled “Alter Ego”, said the aforementioned to “Armenpress”.

“I did what I was to do in the film. People will see and appreciate it in the film. I played the main hero Edgar Novents. An interesting type of an Armenian who tries to enter, pass the path of Komitas, his life and discover certain things for himself. This was my character. He meets very interesting phenomena during that. In short, this is an attempt of self-cognition. But it can be further generalized: If you try to get to know Komitas, first of all you try to get to know your own kind, your people and, finally, yourself,” he noted.

The main character of the film is modern, well-known writer and a lecturer of Faculty of Journalism at a university. He is obsessed with the idea of writing a novel about Komitas vardapet. And to give some truthfulness to the novel, he tries to pass the same path as Komitas did.

In reply to the question, whether it was difficult or easy to play the character in psychological terms, Mkrtchyan answered:

“To tell the truth, I don’t know. I don’t think about such things in my work. I work till the end, sparing no efforts, I work believing in the director. I work when I have something to say, and I cannot say whether it was easy or difficult. It was my job, which I did with great pleasure. I do not think about “easy” and “hard”.”

The actor also noted that he had received his role on the day of his wedding.

Chaldranyan had said earlier during his interview with “Armenpress” that in his film a human being will be presented without the intervention of any chemical computer technologies. He emphasized that he would try to understand who Komitas was, and would try to reveal him in the film as the conscience of the Armenians.

The audience will be able to watch “Alter Ego”, directed by film director, screenwriter, actor Vigen Chaldranyan, in cinemas starting from December 25.
