Turkey must not join EU - Sarkozy

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Turkey must not join the European Union, and should not be led tobelieve that they could. “Armenpress” reports that former French President Nicolas Sarkozy said the aforementioned to Europe 1 radio broadcaster.

"It is a mistake tolead Turkey intobelieving that it can join Europe. We must have close relations withTurkey, common interests withTurkey. But it should not be a member ofthe European Union," Sarkozy said.

The EU and Turkey approved at the end of November the agreement of the measures to be taken in connection with the struggle against migration, in the framework of which the EU will secure 3 billion euro to Turkey and will activate negotiations over its membership, RIA Novosti reports.
