Poroshenko and Merkel discuss elections in Ukraine and situation in Donbas

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 28, ARMENPRESS. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a phone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel during which the parties discussed local self-government elections in Ukraine and situation in Donbas. “Armenpress” informs the press service of Ukraine president announced about this.

“The parties noted democratic and transparent character of local elections of October 25 in Ukraine, which has been confirmed by international observers.

Petro Poroshenko informed Angela Merkel on the developments in Donbas. The parties underlined the necessity of full implementation of the Minsk agreements by Russia.

The interlocutors also highlighted the need for using the “window of opportunities”, which has been opened due to the ceasefire in Donbas”.

Petro Poroshenko and Angela Merkel discussed the progress of reforms in Ukraine, particularly judicial reform, decentralization and struggle against corruption”, the statement reads.

The leaders confirmed that they would make every effort to ensure Ukraine’s successful fulfillment of criteria required for the provision of visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens.
