16. Tom Cruise's begins filming of Jack Reacher sequel

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 21, ARMENPRESS. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, the sequel to the 2012 film starring Cruise as Lee Child’s literary hero, has commenced principal photography in New Orleans, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media announced Tuesday.

“Armenpress” reports referring to Entertainment Weekly that Edward Zwick, who directed Cruise in The Last Samurai, is helming Never Go Back, based on the 18th book in Child’s series about a former military policeman who roams the country kicking butt and righting wrongs. Zwick adapted the screenplay with Richard Wenk and Marshall Herskovitz.

Holt McCallany and Austin Hebert are the most recent additions to the cast, which also includes Cobie Smulders, Patrick Heusinger, Danika Yrarosh, and Aldis Hodge.

Set for release Oct. 21, 2016 — one year from tomorrow — the sequel formerly known as Jack Reacher 2 was hardly a sure thing after the original received mixed reviews and grossed a middling $81 million in North America, on a $60 million budget. But the first Reacher took in $138 million overseas, where Cruise remains a strong draw, and it also performed well in ancillary markets such as home video.
