5-year old Tatev ropeway has had over 430 000 passengers since its exploitation

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 19, ARMENPRESS. Tatever ropeway is 5 years old. World’s longest ropeway was exploited 5 years ago on October 16, 2010 which crosses over Vorotan gorge and gives an opportunity to reach medieval Tatev Monastery complex through a short comfortable route from Halidzor.
It has had over 430000 passengers since its exploitation and about 90 thousand visitors only within the 9 months of the current year. The number of Tatev visitors did not exceed 7 thousand per year before the construction of the ropeway.
Over 5 years the ropeway has become a unique impetus for the development of the region. The increasing tourist flow also contributed to the development of infrastructures: 10 hotels have opened in Goris during the last 5 years, 2 dozens of guesthouses and other facilities operate within the communities adjacent to monastery complex.
Tatever ropeway also provides possibilities for the creation of jobs, selling of agricultural products, development of tourism offers. Most of the 60 employees of the ropeway are local people.
