Second festival of Armenian contemporary music will be dedicated to Genocide anniversary

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 16, ARMENPRESS. The second Festival of Armenian contemporary music will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide this year.
At the initiative of the Union of Composers of Armenia, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, the 2nd festival of Armenian contemporary music, under the heading "Khachaturian and our times" will be held from 20 to 27 October. “Armenpress” reports referring to the Union of Composers of Armenia that during the festival one symphonic and two chamber concerts will be presented, as well as works of 18 composers.
The festival's opening concert (October 20) will be held in Concert Hall after Aram Khachaturian. It will be launched under the accompaniment of Khachaturian’s music, the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia under the direction of chief conductor and artistic director Sergey Smbatyan will perform on the stage. The other two concerts will be held at the Chamber Music Hall after Komitas, on October 22 and 27. This year the festival is distinguished by the fact that within three days of concerts there will be premieres of works, many of which are dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. It is noteworthy that the festival is entirely dedicated to the memory of victims of the first crimes against humanity of 20th century. The concerts are free and start at 19: 00 pm. “Armenpress” is media sponsor of the festival.
