Peoples' Democratic Party of Turkey promises to recognize genocides

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Before snap elections Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) promised within their campaign to recognize the genocides if elected. “Armenpress” reports, referring to Haber7 that co-leader of the left-wing Peoples' Democratic Party Figen Yüksekdağ informed about it during the joint meeting with the Chairman of the political party Selahattin Demirtaş.

“Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) will carry out appropriate activities for reaching an apology on the state’s part for the genocides and massacres committed against different peoples during its history,” Yüksekdağ stated, in response to which the attendees started applauding.

In regard to relations with Armenia, she noted:

“By lifting the economic embargo on Armenia we will develop the necessary economic, political and diplomatic relations and build bridges of friendship with the Armenian people.”

The parliamentary elections of Turkey are planned to be held on November 1.
