Odessa's religious conference highlighted role of Armenian Church

ODESSA, AUGUST 3, ARMENPRESS. The role of the Armenian Church was discussed during the conference headlined “Issues of religious freedom” in Odessa.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the Armenian community in Ukraine, the head of the historical-cultural department of the Union of Armenians in Ukraine Davit Davtyan gave an extended speech during the conference. The historian drew the attention of the present people at the diversity of the Armenian Church, the stages of its creation and the hard periods that the Armenian Apostolic Church has passed through.

The Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church was established in 1991. Soon parishes were established in the cities where there were no Armenian churches.

As of 2001, the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Church had officially registered religious communities under its jurisdiction in Lvov, Kiev, Kharkov, Odessa, Belgorod-Dnepropetrovsk, Feodosia, Yalta, Eupatoria, Simferopol, Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolaev.
