US President condemns deadly attacks in Turkey

YEREVAN, JULY 23, ARMNEPRESS: President Barack Obama is condemning a pair of deadly attacks this week in Turkey. Armenpress reports, citing the Yahoo News that Obama spoke on Wednesday to Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The White House says Obama offered condolences to the families of victims killed Monday in the southeastern border city of Suruc and Wednesday in the border town of Ceylanpinar.

Monday's attack killed 32 people and injured scores more, and led Turkey to briefly block access to Twitter over images of the bombing and calls for protests against the government.

Wednesday's attack killed two police officers. The White House says the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, has claimed responsibility.

Obama and Erdoğan also discussed efforts to combat the Islamic State group and stop foreign fighters from crossing Turkey's border with Syria to join IS.
