Turkish week: from debates on coalition to lawsuit against anti-Armenian mayor

YEREVAN, JULY 18, ARMENPRESS. The most important issue in post-election Turkey’s agenda is what the forthcoming coalition government will be like. The discussions of this issue as well as the meetings and debates are in progress. Armenpress followed last week’s developments in Turkey and presents the most notable ones.

Ahmet Davutoğlu, the leader of the Justice and Development Party, met with other political party leaders elected for Majlis at the beginning of the week to hold negotiations over the formation of coalition. The first meeting was with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the leader of the Kemalist Republican People's Party. In the talk with the journalists Davutoğlu noted that the meeting went on in a “candid and friendly atmosphere.” The talks about the possible Justice and Development Party-Republican People's Party coalition began after the meeting.

Later it became known that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu ordered his party members to refrain from any insult or criticism towards the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Gürsel Tekin, the right hand of the leader of the Kemalsits, informed about this.

The meeting with Devlet Bahçeli, the leader of Nationalist Movement Party was not so successful as the meeting with the Kemalists. After the meeting Devlet Bahçeli announced that his party can’t form a coalition with the leading Justice and Development Party.

As for Selahattin Demirtaş, the leader of the Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party, the latter informed that his party is ready to assist the coalition that’s about to be formed.

Selina Doğan, the Armenian MP that was elected this week from Republican People's Party, introduced an interpellation on Sevan Nshanyan’s condition to Turkey’s Ministry of Justice.

A famous Armenian journalist sued anti-Armenian mayor of Ankara because of his improper statements about Armenians in social platforms.
