Armenian-Iranian railway will help Armenia mitigate consequences of Turkish-Azerbaijani blockade

YEREVAN, JUNE 22, ARMENPRESS. Armenian-Iranian railway station was not constructed for two main reasons: global financial crisis and the West’s sanctions against Iran. In response to Armenpress’ question, iranologist Vardan Voskanyan stresses that the pressure of the West is getting weaker.

“The opening of the Armenian-Iranian railway is a strategic step which is very vital for Armenia. This initiative is very important economically, strategically geopolitically and also politically, as Armenia will have a way to the Persian Gulf”. Voskanyan said adding that in case of building the railway, Armenia will become a connector between the Black Sea and the Persian Gulf. He particularly stated: “We should realize that the construction of Armenian-Iranian railway is highly important and we have no alternative. The international community, especially the West, should also realize this, since the railway will help us get free from the Turkish-Azerbaijani blockade. ”
