YEREVAN, JUNE 18, ARMENPRESS: The restoration program of the degraded lands of the Ararat Valley, Syunik and Vayots Dzor Marzes will launch from September. In six years it is intended to give a new life to 1,5 thousand hectares of degraded lands, being a community property, thus fighting against the lands’ desertification risk. The responsible of the program “Sustainable land management to increase productivity” Armen Danielyan told Armenpress about it.

“In the abovementioned Marzes we must chose lands, which formerly were agricultural, but have lost their fertility due to salinization and overgrazing. The salinized soils are mainly located in the Ararat Valley, in the region of Vedi in particular. Swampy areas, created in the result of the destruction of the drainage system, which worked in the Small Vedi during the Soviet years, are one of the reasons of the salinization of the territories, which were mainly affected by the climate change. And the destruction of the soil due to the overgrazing is mainly in the Syunik Marz”, - informed Armen Danielyan.
