Armenian Nuclear Power Plant to shut down for 6 months in 2017

YEREVAN, JUNE 13, ARMENPRESS. Yervand Zakharyan - Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia – assures that there is enough time to settle the issue of the extension of the license of the exploitation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, commonly known as the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant. In an interview withArmenpressthe Minister informed that they are going to hold a conference with the leadership of the nuclear power plant and other stakeholders on June 13, taking into account that the nuclear power plant stops working not on September 1, 2016 but in spring of 2017. “We have got time, we will manage everything,” Yervand Zakharyan said.
The Minister informed that the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant will stop working for 6 months in 2017. “During these 6 weeks serious restoration operations should be realized regarding the security and exploitation so that the exploitation period is extended by 10 years,” Yervand Zakharyan highlighted, adding that 300 million USD is planned to be spent for this. The money has been received by the Russian side in the form of a loan.
