Greek parliament supports Armenia in fight for recognition of genocides

YEREVAN, 18 MAY, ARMENPRESS. On May 18, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov, who is on an official visit to Athens, held private talks with Speaker of the Parliament of the Hellenic Republic Zoe Konstantopoulou.
As the Department of Public Relations and Mass Media of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, both sides stated that the development of the relations between the two countries is stable and attached importance to further development of inter-parliamentary relations.
After the private talks, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and the Speaker of the Parliament of Greece gave a joint press conference.
During the press conference, the deputy speaker expressed his gratitude to the Greek parliamentary speaker for participating in and giving a speech at the April 22-23 global forum “Against the Crime of Genocide” in Yerevan. Sharmazanov informed Zoe Konstantopoulou that the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia was going to be creating a committee called “Parliaments against Genocides”.
Touching upon the regulation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Eduard Sharmazanov positively assessed Greece’s balanced position and emphasized that Armenia supports an exclusively peaceful regulation of the conflict. In her turn, the Greek parliamentary speaker reaffirmed that Greece supports an exclusively peaceful regulation of the conflict.
Zoe Konstantopoulou expressed her gratitude to the Parliament of Armenia and particularly to Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov for the statement condemning the Greek and Assyrian genocides perpetrated in the Ottoman Empire, which was adopted unanimously by the National Assembly of Armenia on March 24. She emphasized that the Greek parliament supports Armenia in the fight for international recognition and condemnation of genocides.
