YEREVAN, 12 MAY, ARMENPRESS. On May 12, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan received multi-party delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands led by foreign affairs speaker of the Socialist Party Harry Von Bommel. As the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, Minister Nalbandyan, welcoming the first visit of the delegation of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands to Armenia, emphasized that reciprocal visits of parliamentarians are important from the perspective of the development of bilateral cooperation.
Edward Nalbandyan expressed gratitude for the Dutch Parliament’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide in 2004 and attached importance to the fact that the MPs continuously show a consistent approach to this issue. In this context, Minister Nalbandyan attached importance to the adoption of a new resolution on the occasion of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide by the Parliament of the Netherlands on April 9, 2015.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the events taking place on the occasion of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, as well as Armenia’s actions for the fight against denial prevention of crimes against humanity.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, the Dutch MPs mentioned that the major purpose of the visit was to contribute to the development of relations between Armenia and the Netherlands, as well as become familiar with the issues facing the region. The guests also voiced hope that the parliamentary delegation’s visit would be followed by the visits of other high-ranking delegations to Armenia.
Minister Nalbandyan presented the main directions and priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy.
During the meeting, the sides touched upon Armenia-European Union relations and the preparations for the summit to be held in Riga.
