Stamp devoted to Armenian Genocide Centennial redeemed in Uruguay

YEREVAN, 9 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. On April 7, the stamp devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial was redeemed during a solemn ceremony held at the ceremonies hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay. The ceremony was organized by Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Uruguay Ruben Abrahamyan and Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Uruguay, Archbishop Hagop Klenijian.

As the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, among those attending the event were Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Minister of Sport and Tourism Liliam Kechichián, Mayor of Montevideo Ana Oliveira, Head of the Postal Service Solange Moreira, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Argentina Alexan Harutyunyan, high-ranking Uruguayan officials, public and political figures, Ambassadors, wide circles of scientists and academics, as well as members of Uruguayan-Armenian community organizations and journalists.

The speakers underscored the role of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay in international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and praised and expressed gratitude for the issue by Uruguay of a stamp to pay tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

The keynote speaker, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Rodolfo Nin Novoa reaffirmed Uruguay’s position on the Armenian Genocide and particularly mentioned:“Uruguay reaffirms its position, condemning the Armenian Genocide and expressing its full support to the struggle for international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Uruguay was the first country to recognize by law the Armenian Genocide 50 years ago. It was a big step in this struggle that continues to this day.”

In his speech, Rodolfo Nin Novoa also praised the role and significance of the Armenian community in public and political life in Uruguay.
