Serzh Sargsyan – first head of state to shake hands with Italy’s new President

ROME, APRIL 9, ARMENPRESS: In the framework of the official visit, the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan is the first head of state, who will be hosted by the Italy’s new President Sergio Mattarella after his appointment. The meeting of the two Presidents will take place on April 9 in Rome. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Italy Sargis Ghazaryan informed the journalists about it on April 8.

“This visit is special for the fact that the newly-elected President of Italy Sergio Mattarella will officially host the first foreign head of state since his appointment”, - said the Ambassador, Armenpress reports.

The Armenian-Italian political relations are characterized with other features as well. The Armenia-Italy parliamentary friendship group is the second largest group after the Italian-American friendship group in the Italy’s Parliament.

“It has 118 members and this circumstance is important for several reasons: first, Italy is a parliamentary country. And this fact is extremely important on the background of the anti-Armenian activity of the Turkish-Azerbaijani lobby. Thus, it is important that this group be active and has many members”, - emphasized Sargis Ghazaryan.
