Armenia has always supported prevention against genocide and crimes against humanity

YEREVAN, 19 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. Armenia has always supported international efforts for prevention of genocide and other crimes against humanity. This is whatDeputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Karen Nazaryanmentioned during the 15thsession of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.“A couple of days ago, the European Parliament passed an annual report on human rights and democracy in which, on the threshold of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, the European Parliament called on all EU member states and European organizations to recognize the Armenian Genocide and continue to contribute to recognition of the Armenian Genocide. With this, the European Parliament reaffirms its position on the Armenian Genocide and that the Genocide and denial thereof are major and urgent human rights issues. We are grateful for this message for Europe’s solidarity with the Armenian people,”Nazaryan mentioned, as “Armenpress” reports.

He recalled that the state of religious minorities in the Near East is also mentioned in the report passed by the European Parliament. Karen Nazaryan also touched upon the destruction by terrorists of the Holy Martyrs’ Armenian Church of Deir ez-Zor in Syria and highlighted the fact that the destruction of the church helped establish a direct link between the past crimes against humanity and the current crimes against humanity.“The elimination of cultural heritage is an attempt to erase the memory of other nations and eliminate the culture and civilization that spans millennia,”the deputy minister concluded.
