Adoption of resolution on Armenian Genocide by EPP to strengthen political positions for international recognition

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 25, ARMENPRESS. The word of the largest European political family on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is of a certain importance for Armenia. The Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, Minister of Education and Sciences of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ashotyan stated this in a conversation with “Armenpress”.

Among other things, the Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, Minister of Education and Sciences of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ashotyan underscored: “It’s of a certain importance for us that the largest political family of Europe, such as the European People’s Party to recognize, reaffirm again, and condemn all the criminals via one of its most important administrative bodies on the threshold of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and address relevant calls, including political ones, the Turkish authorities.”

Previously it was reported that a resolution dedicated on to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is on the agenda of the European People’s Party (EPP).

The resolution was submitted by the three Armenian political forces affiliated with the EPP (the Republican Party of Armenia, Heritage and Rule of Law).

The report was later confirmed by Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan, who is also a deputy leader of the ruling Republican Party. “Back in January [Heritage leader] Raffi Hovhannisian submitted to the EPP a resolution concerning the Armenian Genocide, while the RPA elaborated a resolution of its own. And we managed to reach a common accord,” he told correspondent of the cite.

Ashotyan added that over the past period they effectively collaborated with the other partners. “We managed to submit a joint resolution which covers all the issues addressing the Armenian Genocide centennial – from recognition-condemnation to demands for undertaking corresponding political measures against Turkey,” Ashotyan said, adding that the document is yet to be finalized.
