YEREVAN, 16 FEBRUARY, ARMENPRESS: Political scientist Sergey Minasyan describes the domestic political situation in Armenia with two words-interesting and troubling. According to him, the reaction from the Republican Party of Armenia was unprecedented and was aimed at neutralizing the Prosperous Armenia Party. As “Armenpress” reports, perhaps the incident in Gyumri, the events in Berdzor and the PAP’s active efforts during the February 5 forum were contributing factors.
According to Minasyan, the situation is more like a “false start” because if the PAP wanted change of power, then it should have criticized and held rallies next year, prior to the parliamentary elections so that it could bring up many problems and be able to garner the maximum number of votes. “However, the PAP is doing that now, two years before the next nationwide elections, and this situation is still like a “false start”,” Minasyan said, adding that the businessmen who are members of the PAP will obviously face serious problems due to the position that the PAP has changed. “As far as the structure of the political party is concerned, I don’t think there will be any changes,” Minasyan said. He suggests waiting until Friday to understand what kind of tension there will be.
