YEREVAN, 3 FEBRUARY, ARMENPRESS. The promulgation of the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the occasion of the 100thanniversary of the Armenian Genocide was a historic event for the Armenian nation. This is whatDeputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanovmentioned during the hour of announcements at the National Assembly.“Why is it exceptional? It is exceptional because this document is not just a document for state bodies, or this or that political party, or Diaspora Armenian organizations, but a comprehensive document for all sectors of the Armenian nation. This is a document stating the wishes and dreams of the Armenian nation, as well as the Armenians’ claims. It clearly states what we Armenians want,”he mentioned, according to “Armenpress”.
Sharmazanov attached importance to the fact that the Declaration clearly states that the Armenian Genocide didn’t begin during WWI in 1915, but lasted from 1894 to 1923.“In this Declaration there are clear references to human rights and the condemnation of genocides. There is a reference to the first and unprecedented declaration adopted by the countries of the Entente in May 1915, stating that this is a crime against humanity and civilization. At the time, the term “genocide” hadn’t been coined yet, but the countries of the Entente accepted it. Today, there is a colleague of ours who even criticizes that. We must be able to stop setting ourselves aside from the general. We have to be united,”Sharmazanov emphasized.
