YEREVAN, 5 DECEMBER, ARMENPRESS. Romanian presses confirm “ArmenPress”’s news according to which Romanian Ambassador to Armenia Sorin Vasile has been called back to Bucharest to give explanations. The callback comes after the Ambassador made disrespectful and subjective statements on the Armenian Genocide, as well as overtly anti-Semitic and homophobic comments during an event at the American University of Armenia.
As the AGERPRES national news agency of Romania reports, in a separate statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania “has strictly condemned and criticized Romanian Ambassador to Armenia Sorin Vasile’s anti-Semitic and xenophobic remarks and has urgently called him back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania to give explanations”.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not tolerate and won’t tolerate any deviation from behavior and rhetoric of a diplomatic representative of Romania, regardless of his or her office,” the Romanian Adevarul newspaper cites the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania.
