YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS: The Director of Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Bureau’s Armenian National Committee and Political Affairs Office Giro Manoyan welcomes the adoption of the genocide denial criminalizing bill by the Greek Parliament. Armenpress reports that Giro Manoyan said: “Especially in this atmosphere, when the Swiss counterclaim against Perinçek is in process in the European Court of Human Rights, the adoption of such kind of a bill is very pleasant. But we must follow the upcoming events in ECHR, as that law has basically the same approach as the Swiss law, which the ECHR announced inhibition of freedom speech. This decision has been appealed and a discussion of it is expected”.
According to the Director of Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Bureau’s Armenian National Committee and Political Affairs Office, it is important that the decision adopted by the European Court of Human Rights will not consider the barriers against spreading hatred as an inhibition of freedom of speech.
Manoyan also mentioned: “Swiss and Greek laws do not concern only to the issue of the Armenian Genocide, as in the laws it is said that the crimes against humanity, which were adopted by courts or, for example, by the Greek Parliament, their denial is condemned”.
