Austria’s FM concerned over human rights in Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS: The presidency in the European Council is selected by the countries’ alphabetic order and that was the reason Azerbaijan got the presidency. “I would like to emphasize that Azerbaijan has not been elected. It was just the countries’ alphabetic order that it has become an EU presiding country. That is an important fact. Concerning the human rights and the freedom of speech restrictions, certainly we are very concerned over that situation in Azerbaijan. Austria is an EU member country and considers the human rights very important”, - the Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria Sebastian Kurz answered the Armenpress question on September 8 during the press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

The Austrian diplomat told that in several days he will visit Azerbaijan and discuss the human rights issue in place.

The Foreign Minister of Austria Sebastian Kurz is in Armenia on an official visit at the invitation of the Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian. Today, the Austrian FM visited Tsitsernakaberd and paid tribute to the memory of the genocide victims. In the framework of the visit the FM will also attend the opening ceremony of the Austrian Development Agency in Armenia.The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Austria met today and discussed the agenda of the bilateral relations, expressed views on regional and international issues.
