Shavarsh Kocharyan reminded Ilham Aliyev that his father had recognized NKR as conflict side, contributing to negotiation progress

YEREVAN, MAY 28, ARMENPRESS. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan, on the request of "Armenpress", commented on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s statement on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Q. How would you interpret Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s statement concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict made during yesterday’s speech?
A. In spite of Azerbaijani President’s claim, Baku actually put the basis for the military conflict between Azerbaijan and the self-determined NKR, rather than the bases for the settlement of the conflict. Baku put the basis for the genocidal policy, expressed by the massive assassination of the Armenian population of Azerbaijan, the surrounding regions of Nagorno-Karabakh and the policy of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh, launching a full-scale military aggression against the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh.
The only step of Azerbaijan for the settlement of the conflict was made 20 years ago, by Heydar Aliyev, who went on to direct dialogue with the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, and on September 3, 1993 authorized by his own signature the Deputy Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament A. Jalilov to "conduct negotiations for organizing a meeting of the senior officials of Azerbaijan and the NKR”.
It’s impossible for Azerbaijan's current President not to realize that Azerbaijan, in the face of his father, by recognizing the NKR at least as a conflict side, contributed to the only real progress in the negotiation process.
It becomes obvious, that praising too much his father, and actually "putting a cross" on his initiatives, the current President of Azerbaijan not only torpedoes the process of settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict initiated by the OSCE Minsk Group, but also raising direct demands concerning Armenian territories, defines grounds for a new armed conflict.
