French, Russians and Americans get Armenian passports

YEREVAN, MARCH 17, ARMENPRESS: In 2013 21,142 people got the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia. Among them there were citizens of other countries. The Head of Passport and Visa Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia Norayr Muradkhanyan told Armenpress about it. Among the people, having two citizenships, there were French, Russians, Georgians and Americans. “The answer to 106 applications was negative due to the country’s safety”, - said Muradkhanyan.
Any person can apply for the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia. Among the required standards are the 3-year permanent residence, the knowledge of the Armenian and the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, etc.
Earlier it was reported that during the first two months of the current year the number of those, who want to have identification cards and biometric passports, are almost as much as during the whole previous year in the Republic of Armenia. The Head of Passport and Visa Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia Norayr Muradkhanyan stated this in a conversation with Armenpress. Among other things the Head of Passport and Visa Department of the Police of the Republic of Armenia Norayr Muradkhanyan underscored that 82 thousand 383 applications for receiving ID cards and 20 thousand 279 for biometric passports have been registered in January-February of the current year. In addition, the police colonel emphasized: “The main part of the applicants’ passports are still valid, but despite this our compatriots want to get biometric passports.” In Yerevan corresponding devices are installed in 10 services out of 13 and currently almost there aren’t crowds. Passport and visa department will soon receive another 48 facilities.
