YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 28, ARMENPRESS. Political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan outlines two main achievements in the statements voiced during the visit of the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili. In a conversation with “Armenpress” political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan stated that it’s of a certain importance that the newly elected Georgian President decided to pay a visit to the Republic of Armenia along with other countries within the framework of his first foreign visits. “This shows that the new Georgian authorities understand and realize the significance of having good relations with Armenia for themselves,” Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan noted.

Among other things political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan underscored that that fact that Armenia and Georgia chose different ways for economic development might cause some anxiety, but the idea sounded at the joint press conference of the Presidents on February 27 saying that it will not hinder the development of bilateral economic relations is a quite serious and significant achievement.

Previously it was reported that the delegation led by the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili visited Tzitzernakaberd memorial dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims on February 27. As reports “Armenpress”, the Georgian President placed a wreath at the Armenian Genocide victims’ memorial and flowers by the unquenchable fire and honored the memory of the innocent victims with a minute of silence.

The members of the Georgian delegation visited the Memory Park, where Giorgi Margvelashvili planted a fir. The President of Georgia was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Edward Nalbandian, the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Kamo Areyan, the Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Armenia Tengiz Sharmanashvili, the Ambassador of Armenia to Georgia Hovhannes Manukyan and others.

On February 27, on the invitation of President Serzh Sargsyan, the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili arrived in the Republic of Armenia on a two-day official visit.

In the framework of his visit Giorgi Margvelashvili is to meet with Armenia's high-ranking leadership and the Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Karekin II.
