First Armenian bass qanun in world does not leave audience indifferent

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 17, ARMENPRESS. The first “bass qanun” musical instrument in the world authored by honorary artist of the Republic of Armenia Ara Gevorgyan and to which much attention has been attached was introduced to the society by a solemn concert program at Concert Hall named after Arno Babajanyan on February 17. Qanun players group of the State Pedagogical University named after Khachatur Abovyan, “Sayat-Nova” folk ensemble led by Tovmas Poghosyan and the State orchestra of National Musical Instruments was given the honor to play the first three samples of the bass qanun which is a musical invention.

The first samples of the bass qanun were handed to these three musical collectives in the form of gifts.

“Armenpress” reports that Ara Gevorgyan stated in a conversation with the journalists that the idea of creating a bass qanun emerged in his mind years ago when they introduced “Mush” work with Hasmik Leyloyan with 50 canons.

“We envisaged writing “Yerevan” with qanuns in the middle of the Republic square and it would become a very nice video. But while listening to the work I noticed that bass sound lacks,” Ara Gevorgyan told who entrusted the mission of preparing a bass qanun to master of National Instruments Albert Zakaryan.
