Canadian MP calls on Azerbaijan to respect ceasefire

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 10, ARMENPRESS. The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, called on the Government of Azerbaijan to ensure that the ceasefire agreement along the Artsakh and Azerbaijan border is respected. As reports “Armenpress” citing the official website of the MP, Karygiannis made remarks at the Parliament and in particular underscored that the ceasefire regime violations only hinder the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and hamper the peaceful regulation of the Nagorno Karabakh issue.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Junior Sergeant Armen L. Hovhannisyan, who was killed in a border skirmish on January 19, 2014.” said Mr. Karygiannis. “I pray that the peace talks will put an end to loss of life.”

Mr. Karygiannis made a Member’s Statement in the House of Commons, which read, in part:

“The envoys of the Minsk Group of countries are, at present, visiting the region and these violations serve only to complicate their work. Canada has always been, and will continue to be, a supporter of peace talks between the parties. The OSCE Minsk Group should be the only venue for the resolution of this conflict. I am asking that we work to ensure that no future aggressive actions, such as the recent one by the Azeri military along the border, take place so that negotiations toward peace can continue constructively.”
