EU should seek signing Association agreement with Armenia: opinion

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS: European Union must do its best for signing Association agreement with Armenia. Such opinion expressed president of the republican union of employers Gagik Makaryan during press conference on September 30. “Armenia is principally ready to sign the Association agreement in November but it is not excluded that before it new developments can take place,” said Makaryan, reports “Armenpress”. He mentioned that changes are possible because of presidential elections in Georgia. Makaryan does not see negative points in Association agreement. In his opinion countries having weak economy import more than export. Makaryan mentioned that by saying Customs Union in Armenia people understands Russia as the trade turnover of Armenia with other members of the union is less.

On September 3 in Moscow President of theRepublicofArmenia Serzh Sargsyanannounced aboutArmenia’s decision to join Customs Union and implementation of steps necessary for that aim and in future participating in formation of Eurasian economic union. At the same time Armenian President mentioned that the decision to join Customs Union is not a refusal from dialogue with European organizations. Chief of staff of President’s office Vigen Sargsyan on September 4 announced that pre-signing of Association agreement remains in Armenia’s agenda.
