Serge Avedikian recognized best actor at Batumi Cinema Festival

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS: Serge Avedikian, who played the main role in the full-length movie "Paradjanov", was recognized the best actor at the Batumi Cinema Festival. The actor reported to Armenpress that he was awarded by the main jury of the Festival, held on September 19-23, though he did not manage to be present personally at the event.

Earlier in a conversation with Armenpress Serge Avedikian stated from Paris that"Paradjanov" will be shown in the Ukrainian cinemas on October 3 and the pre-premier of the movie will be held on October 2. Serge Avedikian underscored that the movie will be shown in cinemas in France either in January or February.

The Armenian premier of "Paradjanov" will be held by the end of 2013.

"Paradjanov", co-produced with Ukraine, France, Georgia and Armenia, was named the best feature film at Odessa Festival.

"Paradjanov" stars Armenian-French film and theatre actor, director, writer and producer, winner of Cannes Festival prize Serge Avedikian as a brilliant director Sergey Paradjanov, whose nonconformist behavior conflicts with Soviet System. Paradjanov's eccentricities land him in jail, where his indestructible love for beauty allows him to withstand the years of imprisonment, isolation and oblivion.

The idea of shooting a movie dedicated to the last 20 years of the gifted artist belongs to the Ukrainian producer and filmmaker Olena Fetisova, who became the screenwriter, co-director and co-producer of the movie.

Avedikian was born in Yerevan, Armenian SSR. His parents were born in France, children of survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. In 1947, influenced by Joseph Stalin's and Maurice Thorez's propaganda, they left to rejoin the motherland, where Avedikian attended the French school of Yerevan. At the age of fifteen along with his family, he returned to France. He got his stage debut in college, in his professor's amateur theater company.

After studies at the Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Meudon (France), he arrived in Paris in 1971 where he worked with the students of the Paris Conservatory. In 1976, he created a theater company and produced several plays. At the same time, he pursued a career as a theater, movie and television actor. In 1988, he founded his own production company but continues to direct films.
