Movie "Parajanov" to be shown in cinemas in the end of current year

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS. Full-length movie "Parajanov" – joint production of Armenia, Ukraine, France, and Georgia, has secured its triumph in a row of festivals, notwithstanding the international premier of the movie is postponed.

In a conversation with "Armenpress" Serge Avedikian stated from Paris that"Parajanov" will be shown in the Ukrainian cinemas on October 3, pre-premier of the movie will be held on October 2.

Among other things Serge Avédikian underscored that the movie will be shown in cinemas in France either in January or February.

"Parajanov," co-produced with Ukraine, France, Georgia and Armenia, was named the best feature film at Odessa Festival.

"Paradjanov" stars Armenian-French film and theatre actor, director, writer and producer, winner of Cannes Festival prize Serge Avedikian as a brilliant director Sergey Paradjanov, whose nonconformist behavior conflicts with Soviet System. Parajanov's eccentricities land him in jail, where his indestructible love for beauty allows him to withstand the years of imprisonment, isolation and oblivion.

The idea of shooting a movie dedicated to the last 20 years of the gifted artist belongs to Ukrainian producer and filmmaker Olena Fetisova, who became the screenwriter, co-director, and co-producer of the movie.

Avedikian was born in Yerevan, Armenian SSR. His parents were born in France, children of survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. In 1947, influenced by Joseph Stalin's and Maurice Thorez's propaganda, they left to rejoin the motherland, where Avedikian attended the French school of Yerevan. At the age of fifteen along with his family, he returned to France. He got his stage debut in college, in his professor's amateur theater company.

After studies at the Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Meudon (France), he arrived in Paris in 1971 where he worked with the students of the Paris Conservatory. In 1976, he created a theater company and produced several plays. At the same time, he pursued a career as a theater, movie and television actor. In 1988, he founded his own production company but continues to direct films.
