Joining Customs Union will be useful for Armenia in gas price issue: EBRD

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 19, ARMENPRESS: Armenia’s joining Customs Union will lead to decrease of gas tariff which will have positive influence on economy. About this mentioned director for Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Bruno Balvanera during press conference on September 19. He reminded that gas tariffs are lower in member countries of Customs Union. “The only thing we know is that Armenia will receive benefits in sense of gas price. Of course it will have positive influence on economy and inflation,” said EDRB official, reports “Armenpress”.

Bruno Balvanera reminded that Customs Union members Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus are also EDRB members. Balvanera thinks it is early to speak about other positive influences on Armenia’s economy after joining Customs Union.

On September 3 in Moscow President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan announced about Armenia’s decision to join Customs Union and implementation of steps necessary for that aim and in future participating in formation of Eurasian economic union. At the same time Armenian President mentioned that the decision to join Customs Union is not a refusal from dialogue with European organizations. Chief of staff of President’s office Vigen Sargsyan on September 4 announced that pre-signing of Association agreement remains in Armenia’s agenda.
