YEREVAN, AUGUST 10, ARMENPRESS: World Chess Cup kicks off. “Armenpress” reports that among the favorites of the tournament the leader is the three-time Chess Wolrd Olympiad winner Levon Aronyan. In the first leg he will face Mikhail Markov representing Kyrgyzstan.
Among other favorites of the tournament are mentioned Vladimir Kramnik, Alexander Grishchuk, Sergey Kariakin from Russia as well as Hikaru Nakamura, Gata Kasky from USA and Boris Gelfand from Israel.
World champion Vishvanatan Anand and Norwegian Magnus Carlsen miss the tournament because of preparation for world champion title battle.
Besides Levon Aronyan Armenia will be represented also by Sergey Movsisyan, Vladimir Hakobyan and Hrant Melkumyan.
The tournament starts on August 10 and finishes on September 5.
