Charles Aznavour arrived in Yerevan

YEREVAN, JULY 4, ARMENPRESS: Legendary Armenian composer Charles Aznavour is in Yerevan. “Armenpress” was informed from press center of “Golden Apricot” film festival that Aznavour arrived in “Zvartnots” airport at 20:30 in order to take part in the 10th “Golden Apricot” international film festival which will be held on July 7-14.

Before the opening ceremony will be held the event of opening star after Aznavour in the square which is called after him. During the festival will be shown films with participation of Aznavour.

The festival will be opened and finished this year by French films. In result of cooperation with French embassy the participation of several famous French filmmakers became possible.

The cooperation with German and Polish embassies in Armenia will be marked by organization of those countries’ film days in framework of the festival.

The "Golden Apricot" Annual Film Festival was established in 2004 inYerevan, by the “Golden Apricot” Fund for Cinema Development, the Armenian Association of Film Critics and Cinema Journalists, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Armenia and Benevolent Fund for Cultural Development. Canadian-Armenian directorAtom Egoyanwas named President of the festival since 2005.

The Festival is dedicated to the theme of Crossroads of Cultures and Civilizations, and features a multitude of films representing various nations and religions, collectively depicting the richness of the human experience.

In 2005 the establishment of a network of filmmakers of the region entitled Directors Across Borders was initiated by the "Golden Apricot" Film Festival.

Since 2005 "Golden Apricot" has been functioning under the aegis of the European Cultural Parliament.
