Armenian specialists created world's first bass qanun

YEREVAN, MAY 30, ARMENPRESS: The world’s first musical instrument bass qanun was created in Armenia. This was announced today by the musician Ara Gevorgyan during the meeting with the journalists. The idea appeared to the musician, when years ago the qanun-player Hasmik Leyloyan and Ara Gevorgyan composed a composition with 50 qanuns. As reported by Armenpress, they achieved the desirable result, when they regulated the music via computer. On that very moment the musician Ara Gevorgyan decided to create a national musical bass instrument.

The world’s first bass qanun is made of maple wood from Sochi, contrabass cords and with its shape it is similar to qanun. The cost of the instrument is quite expensive, about 1000 USD.

On May 29 the creation of the bass qanun was registered by the name of the master Albert Zakaryan, who developed the project and made the instrument itself in eight months. Currently two instruments are being made and the initiators decided to give them Armenian women’s names. The first instrument will be named Alvard. The second one will be named after the wife of the benefactor, who will sponsor the expenses of the instrument’s creation. The initiators have already applied to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia to include the instrument in the list of the UNESCO material culture values.

The initiators intend to present the world’s first bass qanun to the public within ten days with a beautiful show with the participation of qanun-players and dance groups.
