YEREVAN, APRIL 15, ARMENPRESS. A number of various events have been held in Yerevan, which has been declared World Book Capital. The aforesaid events launched in 2012 and first part of 2013 were aimed at the popularization of books, appreciation of the writer, and strengthening publisher-writer-reader ties. "Armenpress" had an interview regarding all these issues with the Adviser to the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, Coordinator of "Yerevan – World Book Capital" program Nerses Ter-Vardanyan.

- Mr. Ter-Vardanyan, how would You asses the quality and vivacity of the events organized within the framework of "Yerevan – World Book Capital" program?

- From the very beginning our objective was to do our best to attract the attention of the society on the book as a value. On one hand this means that book must be in the centre of the state's attention, and on another hand that this will serve as a good incentive for the whole circles ranging from the private sector to the NGOs, to pay a little bit more attention on the book. Generally we can say that the program was success, as a number of events and state programs have been organized.

- What changes have been recorded in the respect of libraries and bookstores network of the World Book Capital?

- In the respect of the libraries we have made several steps forward. The libraries appeared in the centre of the Government's attention. Currently we may state that all the libraries of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia have been restored. Presently, the libraries in the regions do not face the problem of restoration anymore and they have recorded technical progress as well. The Tamanyan annex of National Library has also been restored. We have a row of achievements regarding the bookstores as well. New bookstores have been opened and the entire field became more competitive. (THE FULL VERSION OF THE INTERVIEW IS AVAILABLE IN ARMENIAN)
