YEREVAN, APRIL 5, ARMENPRESS. Prominent pianist, jazzman Tigran Hamasyan will give master class in Armenia and Artsakh from April 8 to May 10. In a conversation with "Armenpress" the Event Coordinator of "Narekatsi" Art Union Victoria Antabyan stated that the number of people interested in the classes is quite large. Also she mentioned that it was Hamasyan's initiative to organize master class in Armenia.
Among other things Victoria Antabyan noted: "We are aware that there will be a vast number of applicants, who desire to attend Tigran Hamasyan's master class, notwithstanding the hall is not unlimited and hence we shall try to organize everything so that musicians could take part in the classes." In her words about 75 individuals can take part in each class held in ‘Narekatsi” centre. The lectures, which will probably last about two hours, will not be dedicated to jazz alone.
Tigran Hamasyan was born July 17, 1987. He is an Armenian jazz pianist, who plays mostly original compositions, which are strongly influenced by the Armenian folk tradition, often using its scales and modalities. In addition to Tigran's folk influence, he is much influenced by American jazz tradition and to some extent, as on his album Red Hail, by progressive rock. His most recent album, entitled A Fable, which is a solo album, is most strongly influenced by Armenian folk music. Even on his most overt jazz compositions and renditions of well-known jazz pieces, his improvisations often contain embellishments based on scales from Middle Eastern/South Western Asian traditions.
