On the request of Karekin II Ivanishvili instructed to organize the teaching of “Armenian history”

YEREVAN, JANUARY 17, ARMENPRESS: His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians hosted Georgian delegation led by Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili and accompanied by Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan in Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on January 17.

Armenpress reports, during the meeting His Holiness Karekin II was glad to speak about the current level of relations between Armenia and Georgia assuring the visit of Georgian Prime Minister to Armenia would be a new impetus for the further development of relations between the two states.

Catholicos of All Armenians mainly referred to the proper maintenance and reconstructions of Armenian churches in Georgia, as well as to the return of a number of Armenian churches to Virahayots Diocese in order to satisfy the spiritual need of the Armenian community. His Holiness hoped that Georgian state would spare no effort to find the proper solution of those issues.

On behalf of Armenian community in Georgia Hiss Holiness asked Ivanishvili to teach the subject “History of Armenian nation” in Armenian schools of Georgia. Catholicos of All Armenians mediated for the release of Vahagn Chakhalyan.

In his turn Georgian Prime Minister was happy with his visit to Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and spoke about the centuries-long friendly relations of Armenia and Georgia, underling his greatest respect towards Armenian nation. Afterwards, referring to the issues raised by His Holiness, Prime Minister guaranteed his personal surveillance over the maintenance and reconstructions of Armenian churches in Georgia. Ivanishvili also gave some instructions concerning the teaching of ““History of Armenian nation”. When referring to Vahagn Chakhalyan’s case, he said it was still on discussion level.
