Mayor of Armenia’s town of Gyumri ready to buy Tumanyan’s house in Tbilisi

YEREVAN, JANUARY 31, ARMENPRESS: Mayor of Armenia's second largest town of Gyumri Vardan Ghukasyan handed a commitment letter to the Chairman of Writers Union of Armenia Levon Ananyan. According to it, the Ghukasyans family is ready to provide the necessary sum for buying Hovhannes Tumanyan's house in Tbilisi, Chairman of the Union Levon Ananyan told a news conference January 31. According to him, Gyumri's mayor and his brother decided to buy the apartment and donate it to the Armenian community of Tbilisi. "Tumanyan united all of us, and I am very happy for it," Levon Ananyan said.

After the apartment is acquired it will turn into a cultural center and the exploitation expenses of it will be cared by "Lorva Dzor" patriotic union. The chairman of the union Sergo Yeritsyan convinced that they will help, assist the center in preservation of Armenian spirit and breath.

Granddaughter of the Armenian outstanding poet Irma Safrastbekyan said hence not her family but the Union of Writers of Armenia will deal with the matter. "This heavy burden is not on us any more," she said.
