Armenian President awarded with Ellis Island Medal of Honor

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan who arrived in the USA September 22 on a working visit, departed today for Ellis Island, where he visited the Immigration Museum, and watched an exhibition dedicated to the Armenian Genocide (1915) and to the Armenians escaped from the genocide and immigrated to the US through Ellis Island.

Presidential press service told Armenpress that in the island Serzh Sargsyan was hosted and accompanied by Nasser J. Kazeminy, Chairman of NECO, members of NECO council, and representatives of the Armenian-American community.

Nasser Kaseminy awarded President Serzh Sargsyan with Ellis Island Medal of Honor for contribution of Serzh Sargsyan to development of Armenia-US relations, his devotion to maintenance of peace in South Caucasus, as well as for cooperation in the direction of efficient integration of immigrants in Armenia. It was mentioned that throughout the 25-year-old history of awarding Serzh Sargsyan was the first foreign head, who received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the award and said, "I received that medal with excitement and pride also on behalf of the Armenian sons and daughters who passed by Ellis Island". He noted that he receives the medal as an assessment of our people's achievements in these lands and as a symbol of Armenian-American friendship and its further expansion.
