Azerbaijan Addresses Letters to UN Secretary-General and Not Minsk Group Co-Chairs: Why?

YEREVAN, AUGUST 17, ARMENPRESS:

Agshin Mehdiev, Azerbaijan's permanent representative to UN, addressed a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stating that the Armenian party regularly violates the ceasefire in the Karabakhi-Azerbaijani contact line and cited the news on the death of a 13-year-old Azerbaijani girl.

"This is another way to hinder the negotiation process. Why does Azerbaijan address letters to the UN secretary-general and not the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs or co-chairing states?" according to Davit Babayan, head of the central information department of the Office of Artsakh Republic President.

He says Azerbaijan adopted a policy of showing extracts from horror films tending to present the Armenian party as a "child-killer". "No doubt, Ban Ki-moon and other leaders as well understand that this is a lie," Davit Babayan said.

He says in case of such phenomena, first of all it is necessary to apply to the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states. "Let them come and verify this at the site of the event; however Azerbaijan does not apply, of course, because Azerbaijan knows that in the result of checks it will appear that it just lied indecently."

According to the political scientist, at the UN Azerbaijan is engaged in PR and does not tend to exercise the process in a constructive manner. "The international community should treat this quite seriously, as this state has entered a very dangerous political stage, when it does not differ the reality from a virtual world: this is a variant of schizophrenia," Davit Babayan said.
