RA President Says None of NK Presidents Inherits Power

YEREVAN, JULY 28, ARMENPRESS: Poland has always been for the approach that issues such as that of the Nagorno Karabakh should be settled through maintenance of two principles – the territorial integrity and sanctity of borders, as well as the right of peoples to self-determination, President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski said today at a joint news conference with RA President Serzh Sargsyan.

Bronisław Komorowski says Poland's history showed that quite often the Polish people had to fight for both principles. "We know how difficult the settlement of such issues is, especially when they have been deepened that much. It is very important to pay attention to all the positive sides existing," he said.

President Komorowski noted that the reforms in Nagorno Karabakh, change in viewpoints, as well as the peaceful settlement of issues existing for a long time are among the positive sides. "Therefore the participation of the Western world in the resolution of conflicts should be first of all aimed at resolution of conflicts. This concerns all the territorial disputes in this part of Europe".

RA President Serzh Sargsyan said the EU support to the Nagorno Karabakh is a necessity. "Democracy is an absolute value, and any support in this case should be highly praised. If tomorrow the EU supports the Nagorno Karabakh in strengthening democratic, state establishments, we will just be happy," the president said.

He added that the Artsakhi people expect support as it is already 17 years they have been advancing through the path of democracy. "Elections are held in the Nagorno Karabakh in compliance with the international standards: both they and we are proud of this," President Serzh Sargsyan said.

According to the RA president, during the parliamentary elections in the Nagorno Karabakh an opportunity was created for all the political forces to have seats at the parliament. "Three presidential elections were held in the Nagorno Karabakh, three presidents were elected and none of them inherited the power," President Serzh Sargsyan said.
