The daily Haykakan Zhamank writes that the Armenian authorities requested time from the Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg to respond to the latter's questionnaires connected with certain issues in the report he has prepared. The report of the Commissioner was expected to be published May 2. In response to the request of the authorities Hammarberg's office has prolonged the publication of the report for a week.
Under the title What Matthew Bryza wants from Azerbaijani regions the daily Azg writes that returning from Tbilisi where days ago, according to the Azerbaijani mass media, the gathering of the American ambassadors took place, Bryza initiated a quite remarkable tour. The paper says Matthew Bryza visited different Azerbaijani regions – Ismayilyan, Oguzi, Shekii, Mingechvire, Dashkesa and Gyanja. The paper writes that with the interesting coincidence during the same days President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev too initiated visits to the regions of the country. The paper says the tour of Bryza was connected with the 50th anniversary of creation of Peace Corps, this is the way the US embassy in Baku commented it.
The daily Hayots Ashkhar writes that journalist of Armenian decent in Transdniester Ernest Vardanyan was set free. The paper says President of Transdniester Igor Smirnov stated at a news conference that on the World Press Freedom Day he decided to pardon the journalist. The paper reminds that Ernest Vardanyan was arrested in 2010 in April accused in spying and betrayal of homeland. The paper says he was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment.
