YEREVAN, APRIL 22, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian Genocide issue must be put in a following way: how to reach compensation. This opinion was voiced by head of the History Institute Department of the National Academy of Sciences Armen Marutyan. He said that it is a long time no one puts the fact of Armenian Genocide under doubt which is a big progress and shows that the mechanisms of denial used by Turkey are not working any more.
“Everyone understands that if Obama utters the word “genocide” leaders of other countries will follow them”, the historian noted. He said it is obvious that many countries prefer economic and political interests than historic truth.
Dean of the Yerevan State University Edik Minasyan said during these years a notable progress has been registered in the Armenian Genocide recognition process: 24 countries adopted the genocide on a legislative level and resolutions condemning it. From this point of view the historian especially pointed out the genocide resolutions of France, Germany and the 42 states of the USA.
“The fact that the overloading majority has recognized genocide and the federal power not puts a country into funny situation”, Marutyan said.
