Romanian president voices statement not adequate to president of EU member state

YEREVAN, APRIL 21, ARMENPRESS: “The statement the President of Romania Traian Basescu voiced in Baku is not adequate to a president of any of the EU member state and contradicts not only the position expressed by that country within the framework of the OSCE and the EU but the logic of the Minsk Group peace talks”, member of the Armenian National Assembly Gagik Melikyan said, commenting on the statement of the Romanian president that the Artsakh conflict must be solved within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

Gagik Melikyan also noted that contemporary Romania has been formed in difficult historic-political conditions when the Romanian people were under the foreign auspices. “Consequently the president of that country should be more careful over such sensitive region as the South Caucasus, and not forget the history of own people and their liberation fight”, he said.

According to him, it is not accidental that Basescu displays such irresponsible attitude toward a number of European and international issues and “in the EU he turned into persona non grata, very few people wants to meet him. He is target of strict criticism not only in his country but in the whole Europe”.
