RA government keeps issues on updating of irrigation system in the focus of its attention

YEREVAN, MARCH 25, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian government continuously keeps the issues on updating of the irrigation system in the focus of its attention, Minister, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan said today at a meeting with heads of water using companies at the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration. According to him, though meetings with such a staff were also held in February, the developments of the last 2 months and the adopted decisions brought to another meeting for determining the tasks for the beginning of the irrigation season.

“It is not by chance that investments of dozen of millions of Dollars are implemented in the last 2-3 years for that purpose. We are familiar with two suchlike programs, the first is the urgent program implemented by the World Bank, within the framework of which main canals are constructed, and the second is the large-scale program of the MCA-Armenia,” the Minister said, stressing that all these works and investments aim to normal exploitation of the irrigation system.

Mr. Gevorgyan expressed confidence that after wrapping up these programs, we will have up-to-date, less expensive and more efficient irrigation system. “All our efforts must be directed toward registering the best results. And reaching these goals, we will support the development of agriculture: the irrigation system of the agriculture has an essential and main significance, and the normal and uninterrupted activity of this system must be the main goal of all of us,” Mr. Gevorgyan said.
