Serious achievements registered in the sphere of information safety

YEREVAN, MARCH 21, ARMENPRESS: Last year’s achievements in the sphere of information safety were summed up at today’s National Security Council and the programs and tasks for future were discussed. Secretary of the National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan noted that Armenia has serious achievements in that regard.

In parallel to addition of spread of internet in the country and reduction of prices, the attacks at the official websites of state structures and damages were sharply reduced last year. Besides that, different events are conducted collaboratively with international structures to prevent the cyber crimes.

“Already last year the hacker attacks at the official websites of the governing bodies stopped, while they were of frequent nature during 2008-2009. The National Security Council, which was recognized an authorized body in this sphere, managed to neutralize different attacks,” Mr. Baghdasaryan said. According to him, there are still opportunities that the price of the internet in Armenia falls at the price of quality increase and growth of spread.

“The developments take place due to increase of competition, for which we owe to annihilation of the monopoly in the market,” Arthur Baghdasaryan stated, adding that the level of net preparedness has been improved too.

“Today in the century of developed technologies we make idea of countries not only by their military, economic and political development level, but by information safety as well.

According to the Chairman of the National Security Council, in the recent two years the price of the multi-stripe internet has reduced 6 times reaching 100 from 900 USD. He said that the level of spread of the multi-stripe internet has essentially improved not only in Yerevan but in provinces as well.

Member of Interdepartmental Committee on Safety Issues Smbat Petrosyan said that there is a big difference of network preparedness between provinces and Yerevan. According to him, the traffic of the internet imported in the fourth quarter of 2008 did not exceed the volume of 1 MB, in 2009 it was near the mentioned speed, and last year exceeded the 8 MB. The volume of the internet imported in the second quarter of 2011 will exceed the 11 MP as intended.
