Astronomer: No grounds for speaking about “Apocalypses”

YEREVAN, MARCH 21, ARMENPRESS: Recently a number of publications appeared in press and Internet about the “Apocalypses” expected December 21 2012 as if that day is the last day in Maya’s calendar. Besides, it is being spoken about the classification of the Earth and Sun in the center of Galaxy, change of the magnetic poles of the Earth, geo-magnetic storms connected with the unprecedented activation of the Sun and other disasters and destructions.

Senior worker of the Byurakan Observatory, co-chairman of the Armenian Astronomy Union Areg Mickaelyan told Armenpress that recently numerological draws have being made claiming that 21-12-12 are magic numbers or other calculations are being made – summing the numbers of two major disasters of the 21st century the 11.09.2001 terrorism act in the USA and the earthquake and tsunami in Japan 10.03.2011 makes 21.12.2012.

“It is necessary to note that part of it is made up, and the other part is very exaggerated. For instance in 2012 no clash of planet with the Earth, no parade of planets or change of the poles of the Earth are expected. The periodical activation of the Sun is coming close to the maximum and will be registered in 2013-2014 but it will in norm. As to the natural disasters, they may take place like every year,” the astronomer said.

Speaking about Maya’s calendar Mickaelyan noted that on that day the regular periodic round of Maya’s calendar is ending but it will be followed with the next one that is to say the end will be followed by the new beginning. In their calendar each cycle consists of 1 million 872 thousand days or 5 million 125 037 years and December 21 2012 the regular 13th cycle will end.

Summing up the talks connected with the 2012 the astronomer assured that all this creates unnecessary tension not having real grounds.
