Edward Sharmazanov Says Political Process in Armenia Proper

YEREVAN, MARCH 18, ARMENPRESS: It is necessary to learn lessons from previous mistakes and exert every effort to achieve Armenia, we have dreamed of, with a civilized, evolutionary way, according to Edward Sharmazanov, secretary of the NA “Republican” faction.

He says mutual concessions can be made by the authorities, which are strong, broad-minded and fond of democracy values. “However everybody must understand the necessity of only legal and constitutional political processes. Any attempt to advance with an anti-constitutional way will bring to wrong consequences,” Sharmazanov said.

He says the initiative of the Armenian National Congress and the RA Police to negotiate showed the parties’ prudence and desire to avoid conflicts. “For both sides – the opposition and authorities, it is important not to gain political dividends, but to implement a stable political development,” Sharmazanov said. He says the police’s yesterday action was also a result of the RA president’s statements at the police board session.

According to the ARP representative, the authorities are for a civilized struggle. “We think that the authorities must act, and the opposition – criticize, however it must not exceed the limits of legality and political correctness,” he said.

Edward Sharmazanov says reforms are under way in our country. “The vivid proof is John Prescott’s statement, made during the meeting with Serzh Sargsyan. Mr. Prescott mentioned that serious reforms have been effected in Armenia since March 1, 2008 due to the political will of the authorities. “Actually there are some issues in Armenia, but for settling them, it is necessary to advance,” he said.

According to Edward Sharmazanov, the authorities are willing to deepen the democracy development and exert every effort to achieve it. “For this purpose, it is necessary to have a wide political dialogue between the society and all the political forces. The president mentioned that a revolution is not the best way, as it would bring some quakes, our country does not need,” Edward Sharmazanov said.
